The UHCA Board works on a continuous basis to improve the organization while listening to the needs of our members and riders. With that in mind we want everyone to know the rule changes and important announcements for the 2019 season. We encourage all riders to read the handbook once it is published online in January.

1- Novice, Amateur, Open and Schooling class entries will now close at 11 am instead of noon. If you ride in any of those classes, please plan to arrive before 11 am to each race.

2- The Classic division obstacles will now be numbered during the race. This is the only class that will have numbers, but we feel this is a needed benefit for this class to continue to grow.

3- There have been major changes to the Schooling Class, known before as the New Rider Schooling Class. The schooling class is open to any rider that would like time on the obstacles to work with their horse, or for young horses or riders to get experience in a non-competitive environment. This class can also be done in-hand if desired.

4- The Colt class definition has also been changed. Beginning in January 2020, a colt will only be eligible for the Colt class for 1 year. It is very important that those planning to ride colts in 2019 or 2020 to read and understand the rule changes .Including the rules about riding in other organizations and Colt class eligibility. Young colts could be ridden in the Schooling class, without it affecting their Colt class status.

5- The board added an appeals statement to the Open definition. Any rider that has been restricted to the Open class, can appeal to the UHCA board to return to a lower division.

The beginning of each year brings self-promises of improving our riding, learning a new discipline, honing our horsemanship, finding a new trainer, or cleaning out the tack room. If any of these New Year’s resolutions sound familiar, mark your calendar for the Ultimate Riding Resolutions Workshop and Used Tack Swap, February 2, 2019 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Community Arena. This event will feature mini-instructional workshops by four of the top trainers in the region that specialize in extreme cowboy racing and obstacle challenges.

Mid-day, a judging workshop will provide insight to what judges are looking for when scoring a rider’s performance for particular types of obstacles along with valuable tips about how you can increase your scores.

Reserve a table to find a new home for those gently used items that have been cluttering up your tack room or come and shop for that perfect piece of equipment you’ve been searching for. At the end of the day, we’ll pit our featured trainers head-to-head in a fast-paced match race to demonstrate the excitement, finesse and horsemanship that is the Ultimate Horsemens Challenge Association.  So, fast track your goals in February and join us for this surefire remedy for the winter blues.

NOTE: This is a spectator event, not a riding event, please don't plan on bringing your horses.

The Burlington event is a fundraiser for the UHCA and as such we need volunteers. We are asking for each member to volunteer to help with 1 class throughout the weekend. If every member agrees to work one class, we would have plenty of help. Please consider which class would work best for you and email us back so we can get you on the schedule. Both days will run the normal go order for both courses. We are willing to work around all riders and what divisions they ride in.

We appreciate all of our members, their willingness to help out and their flexibility. Please join us for what will be a great weekend at Burlington.
