We welcome the first day of Spring today and a very welcome sight it is. I hope everyone is getting ready for our first UHCA Event at Eagle Ranch in Collins, MO. Be sure to get your reservations in for a cabin, living quarters spot and stall for your companion. Eagle Ranch is April 12th which is less than one month away. We have been waiting a long time for this.

We do have a UHCA clinic coming up, Saturday, March 29th. Kylie Fowler will be teaching how to jump in a western saddle, plus lots of obstacle work and putting a course together. Will be a great way to get started for the new year. The clinic will be held at Rocking V Ranch located on the south end of Topeka. E-mail me for more information.

As in the past, our UHCA Events are also EXCA qualifier points for the EXCA World Show in Hamilton, TX. I wanted everyone to know that if you choose to ride a Colt this year in UHCA Colt Division, you will be eligible to compete at the EXCA Colt Futurity at the end of the year. That Colt may not show in any other UHCA Division. You must be a member of EXCA and nominate your Colt. Please check the EXCA rulebook for specific requirements. Any questions regarding EXCA rules, please call or email EXCA.

We are looking forward to a stellar year and 9 great UHCA Events ahead. Good Luck to everyone and see you in Collins.

    Happy Trails!!!

McCracken Saddles & Tack is giving away a “High Point Horsemanship” McCracken Saddle in the 2014 UHCA Colt Division. The owners of McCracken Saddles and Tack, Jake and Laura, are awarding this saddle because they feel that horsemanship is a very important aspect in training horses. In their opinion, the UHCA Colt Division, is one of the most diverse and challenging competitions to train for and demonstrate horseman’s skills. Great horses come from great horsemanship and this starts when they are colts.

This saddle will be given to the horse/rider team attaining the Highest Cumulative HORSEMANSHIP Points from that teams best 5 races of the season. Only the Horsemanship scores from each of the two judges at a race will be added together for an event total.

The horse/rider team must compete in the Colt Division in a minimum of three UHCA sanctioned events to be eligible for this award. In the event of a tie; the UHCA rules listed in the 2014 Handbook will be used to determine a winner.  Any UHCA member riding in the Colt Division during the 2014 season is eligible to compete for the saddle; there is not an additional nomination fee to win this saddle.  Use your best horsemanship skills and you could take home a saddle at the end of the year.

Welcome to the 2014 UHCA Season. Your Board has been working very hard to make this year a very exciting one.  Our Handbook will be 'online only' this year with easy to read rule changes in blue. One of the notable changes is moving the Colt Division to the Low Impact Course. Our Board listened to the membership and thought this was a good move for the Colts, with less stress on their young growing bodies, having more ample time for warm-up and not such high difficult obstacles. We understand that this was not a unanimous decision from the membership; therefore, we will watch how the year goes and reevaluate at the end of the season.

At the end of 2013, UHCA acquired a number of items to improve our events going forward. We purchased two new electric timers, a second public address system and a laser printer/copier. These items will be available for our hosts to utilize at future events.

The Board is currently working on a Judge's List to help our hosts find quality judges and to ensure riders are confident that the judges know our rules, what to look for scoring obstacles and how to recognize great horsemanship.  This is a work in progress.  If you know of someone that you would like to recommend as a potential judge, please let Scott Simms who is heading up this Committee or one of our Board members know.

New this year is the addition of a ninth race. We are very excited to have 4 brand new locations. New to the line-up are Lexington, MO, Benton, KS, Strong City, KS  and Burlington, KS. Expanding in these directions, gives our past UHCA riders new territory and obstacles to be challenged by and opens our UHCA family to new and upcoming riders. Please welcome our new hosts and new members.

It's been a challenging winter for all of us but April 12th is right around the corner.  Make your reservations for our first race at Eagle Ranch.  Think warmer weather and drier footing.  We had our trials with the mud last year.

If you have concerns or ideas please contact one of our UHCA Board members.  We are here to serve you and make 2014 the BEST yet.  If you would like to contact me my email is  LV2JUMPtoo@aol.com or call me at 785.845.6891.

    See you on the Trails…
